SPRINGFIELD – R. D. Lawrence Construction Company of Springfield managed the construction of the
World War II Veterans Memorial dedicated this month at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
The $1.5 million dollar project was completed the first week of December. The design features two large granite walls flanking a 12 foot concrete globe that commemorates major battles in the conflict.
“The memorial to this country’s heroes of the Second World War will serve as a monument to mark their accomplishments and also serve as an inspiration for generations to come,” said John Goetz, President of R.D. Lawrence Construction Company, who was a featured speaker at the dedication.
“Seeing those thousands turn out on a December Day at Oak Ridge Cemetery to mark the dedication was an overwhelming experience. R.D. Lawrence Construction is honored to have been selected to manage the construction of the Memorial.”
R.D. Lawrence Construction Company also built the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Dignitaries attending the World War II Memorial dedication included U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin and former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar.
